Summer brings unbeatable weather for exploring the great outdoors. Countless hiking trails, to backpack and camp. Long sunny days allow time in the morning to hit the trails and time in the evening to relax and indulge in local mountain cuisine (think locally-sourced ingredients, organic vegetables and ethically raised meats).

  • Although it is known by many as “Jackson Hole,” the town itself is actually just “Jackson.” “Jackson Hole” refers to the entire valley that rests at the base of the Tetons, extending from Hoback to Moran north to south, and Jackson to Wilson east to west.
  • Jackson Hole is the gateway to two national parks: Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park.
  • Grizzly and black bears, elk, moose, coyotes, wolves, bison, eagles, and Trumpeter swans are just some of the animals that call the area surrounding Jackson Hole home.
  • Each winter, around 7,000 elk migrate onto the National Elk Refuge, found immediately adjacent to northwest Jackson.
  • Nearby Bridger-Teton National Forest, is the largest national forest in the lower 48 states, encompassing 1,694,574 acres.

Honeymoon Hints

  • Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is a short 20-minute drive to the Jackson Town Square.
  • If you can, book your seat on the right side of the airplane to get an incredible view of the Tetons as you fly in.
  • If you arrive on a weekend between the third weekend in December and the third week in March—between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.— expect to be greeted at baggage claim by the Howdy Pardners. Dressed like the cowboys and cowgirls who settled this valley in the early 1900’s the Howdy Pardners are enthusiastic ambassadors of the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.
  • A visit to Jenny Lake is a must for a scenic hike or picnic.
  • Yellowstone National Park borders Jackson Hole on the North so plan accordingly if you are intending on driving from that direction. If you do choose to come that way it will be a slow (albeit scenic) journey through Yellowstone.
  • The area’s high elevation, rugged terrain and relatively low humidity can create major fluctuations in temperature, precipitation and wind in a short period of time. Avoid risk by paying close attention to the weather forecast before setting out for the day.
