  • Take a walk along the waterfront River Street downtown to admire the historic buildings. Check out the shops and stop for a meal at an elegant restaurant.
  • Tybee Beach is just a short hop from downtown. Head out as locals do for miles of sandy beach, historic sites and seafood restaurants.
  • To get your fill of historic architecture, visit the 18th century Cathedral of St John the Baptist and the eerie Bonaventure Cemetery with its Victorian statues and lush gardens.

Travel Tips

  • GETTING THERE: Savannah Airport (SAV) is connected to over thirty destinations in the US and Canada. If you’re driving, I-95 or I-16 will bring you here. Amtrak and Greyhound also make stops in the city.
  • GETTING AROUND: You can get around the downtown area on foot or bicycles, or travel in style in a carriage. There is also a free downtown trolley shuttle service. To visit other areas further out, you will need a car.
  • WEATHER: The climate is classified as humid sub-tropical with long, hot and humid summers and short and mild winters. Spring and fall weather is pleasant and comfortable to be outdoors.
  • WHEN TO GO: The best time to visit is in the early spring, from March to June, when the magnolia and honeysuckle are in full bloom. July and August are peak season, and it does get crowded. The weather is pleasant from September to November and the crowds are gone.
