Destination Overview

A land of dramatic, craggy peaks, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and gorgeous vistas round every turn, the Adirondacks region of upstate New York is a must-see for newlyweds who love the great outdoors. This area has long been recognized as a natural paradise, with over 6 million acres preserved as a national park in the 1800’s. Today, it’s the largest publicly protected area in the continental US. Because of this, the Adirondacks region has retained much of its characteristic wild, rugged charm.
The breathtaking scenery of the Adirondacks makes it an ideal location for romantic getaways, be it a destination wedding, honeymoon, or romantic escape. Located in close proximity to major cities like New York, Boston and Montreal, the Adirondacks beckon to worn-out city slickers who long to trade their urban jungles for weekends in a woodsy wonderland.

There is an activity for every couple up in these mountains. Adventure junkies may find themselves white-water rafting in a gushing gorge or taking a spin in a Lake Placid bobsled. Sports enthusiasts enjoy numerous opportunities for climbing, skiing, and mountain biking in the high peaks. Pleasure seekers will delight in the numerous micro-breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries that welcome visitors. And for those who prefer a slower pace of life, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, and bird-watching opportunities abound.

In between activities, visitors adore the quaint, rustic charm of the mountain villages that speckle the area. These scenic towns are home to pretty bed & breakfasts and luxe lodges perfect for a romantic retreat. Follow up a day of adventure in the great outdoors with a spa treatment, bubble bath, and a warm seat by the fire. Drift to sleep gazing at the spectacular blanket of stars that can only be seen in this rugged neck of the woods.
