Tucked away just north of Cancun, Costa Mujeres is a quiet honeymoon getaway, where you can relax and just soak in the beauty of the natural environment. Though it’s only half an hour’s drive away from Cancun, it’s like another world, where you can rest and relax on your honeymoon, surrounded by turquoise seas, white sand beaches and tropical rainforest. If you feel the need the for some more bustle and excitement, Cancun is just 20 minutes away.

But Costa Mujeres has plenty of attractions of its own for a relaxed holiday. The Isla Blanca Beach is popular with both residents and visitors, for its pristine sands and also because it is pet- friendly. This is also a great location for kite surfing If you enjoy golf or tennis, there are world-class facilities.

The nearby Mayan archeological site of El Meco has a mystical atmosphere and a visit will im-merse you in the Mayan cosmology and culture. Costa Mujeres makes a good base to explore sur-rounding nature parks, islands and archeological sites. If you happen to be there at the right sea-son, you can see the spectacular flamingoes adding to the colors of the tropical seas and forests.

  • Visit the nearby fishing village of Puerto Juárez. Take the ferry to Isla Mujeres or enjoy a fresh-cooked seafood meal with the day’s catch fresh from the sea.
  • You can make Costa Mujeres your base to explore the area. The Riviera Maya is just 35 miles away, with theme parks, cenotes and a major archaeological site at Tulum. Spend a day at Pla-ya del Carmen and soak up the sun at the beaches and explore the funky shops on 5th Avenue.

Honeymoon Hints

  • Learn kite surfing at Isla Blanca. This is one of the best places for this sport, with ideal wind conditions and shallow and warm waters. The best time for kitesurfing is between October and May.
  • Relax at your own private beach or by the pool and watch the spectacular sunsets and sunrises.
  • Make time for spa treatments that will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated.

Travel Tips

  • GETTING THERE: Costa Mujeres is just half an hour from Cancun International Airport. You can get taxis and rental cars at the airport.
  • GETTING AROUND: You’ll need a taxi or a rental car to visit Cancun and other tourist sites.

  • CURRENCY: The peso. U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere but change will likely be in pe-sos.
  • ELECTRICITY: 110 volts, 60 cycles. Bring a power surge protector for your computer.
  • AVERAGE YEAR ROUND TEMPERATURE: 80 degrees F.
  • WHEN TO GO: With a comfortable tropical climate, this is a year-round destination. Hurri-cane season is in the fall, so make sure you check the forecast and keep track of any storms.
  • WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES: When preparing for a day’s sightseeing, be aware that you will be doing a lot of walking.
  • BRING SUNSCREEN & TOILETRIES: The sun is very strong and you can get a bad burn in a short time.
  • DON’T LOSE YOUR TOURIST CARD: The remainder of the Tourist Card you receive upon arrival has to be turned in when you leave the country. Keep it safely with your passport.
  • HEALTH: International travel to Mexico was never shut down due to Covud-19, but each re-gion, most hotels and tourist attractions have their own guidelines that must be followed by visitors.
