About Saint Lucia

Most Romantic Spot in St. Lucia

You’ll glimpse the breathtaking beauty of the Piton Mountains long before you reach them. Located on St. Lucia’s southwestern coast, the twin volcanic spires – Gros Piton and Petit Piton — are each about 2,500 feet high and have been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their cultural significance. Beyond being a magnificent backdrop, the mountains are the basis for many romantic activities.

Hiking trails allow couples to ascend the incredible Gros Piton hand-in-hand while observing exotic animals and plants. There are also a number of tours that take visitors around the mountains, including private helicopter rides and snorkeling expeditions. But the most romantic of all adventures might be the sunset catamaran cruise. With a cocktail in one hand and your partner’s hand clasped in the other, a Piton Mountains sunset is a picturesque scene you’ll never forget!

Expert Tip: Sugar Beach, near the base of the mountains, is one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. Some believe that it’s a private beach, as it shares its name with the ultra-luxury Viceroy Sugar Beach Resort, but all beaches on the island are public!

  • Pigeon Island to the north is a complete trip in its own right! Relax on one of two immaculate beaches, tour the ruins of 18th-century Fort Rodney, go snorkeling off the coast, and finish off the day with a sunset dinner at one of the many local restaurants.
  • The island’s protected rainforests are best enjoyed from the Rainforest Aerial Tram. You’ll hold your sweetheart’s hand tight as you take in the rich scenery and sweeping vistas from your bird’s-eye view.

St. Lucian Culture & Considerations

Language
International travelers can rest easy knowing that English is the official language in St. Lucia. Like other Caribbean nations, St. Lucians speak in a distinct Patois (Kwéyòl) that draws its influences from French and West African cultures. Enjoy the unique language experience by incorporating French words and phrases, like “bonjour,” “merci,” “pardon,” and “au revoir” into your everyday speech!

Safety
Travelers generally don’t need to worry about honeymooning on the island. As with any destination, it’s always best to be aware of your surroundings, arrange transportation at night, and lock your valuables at your hotel during the day. The island’s economy is based on tourism, and there are plenty of enthusiastic locals selling all types of goods and tour services, so just be mindful of interactions.

Tipping
While tipping is optional and can be reserved for exceptional service, locals and tourists alike usually tip at restaurants, bars, and hotels in St. Lucia, as well as for taxis and shuttles. Some restaurants automatically add 10% to the final bill, so definitely check before tipping, but consider leaving a few extra dollars either way. The national average is somewhere in the range of 8%-15%, so anything at the higher end could very well lead to better service and special perks, especially for resort staff!

The perfect destination for a honeymoon or a lifetime, St. Lucia is one of the world’s most enchanting places for romance. One-of-a-kind adventure experiences and culinary options are perfectly matched with an idyllic setting that invigorates the senses. Simply put, you’ll treasure your St. Lucia honeymoon for decades to come.

Traveling to St. Lucia

Weather in St. Lucia
The average temperature in St. Lucia falls in the range of 84-87 degrees, so expect temperatures warm enough for swimming year-round. Temperatures rarely fall below the mid-70s in the winter, making December through April the most popular time for tourism. This means that the best travel deals can be found from June to December; just keep in mind that these months coincide with the island’s rainy season. Outside of major storms, rain showers tend to be quite short, allowing for romantic fun any time.

COVID-19 Considerations
Similar to other Caribbean nations, St. Lucia requires proof of a negative COVID-19 test, as well as a completed Travel Registration before arriving in the country. As regulations are being amended on a weekly basis, definitely check online or with your travel advisor with plenty of time before your departure.

Flights to St. Lucia
The country has two airports, though Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in St. Lucia is the larger of the two and the sole option for international travelers. Flying to the island is a breeze thanks to popular airlines like American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, United, and Air Canada all booking regular flights. Non-stop flights are available from New York, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Toronto.

Ground Transfers
Honeymooners have plenty of options for getting around the island, with a network of minibusses and taxis servicing all the major areas. Many resorts include roundtrip airport transfers and daily shuttles in their packages for effortless mobility.

Renting a private car is quick and easy at the airport, and staff will be able to set you up with a temporary driving license on the spot. St. Lucia is one of the most varied islands terrain-wise, so be prepared for steep, narrow roads at times. Make sure you’re ready for the rules of the road, as many international travelers can be tripped up by the left-side driving!
