About Negril

Most Romantic Spot in Negril

The romantic oasis that is Seven Mile Beach is the town’s signature destination. The beach is stunningly beautiful with fine sands that seamlessly integrate with turquoise waters for an unrivaled tropical paradise. One of the favorite local “secrets” is that the beach is actually five miles long, but with its sands seeming to disappear into the horizon, you’ll agree that it almost feels infinite!

During the day, the beach—which is populated by Negril’s all-inclusive luxury resorts—is the prime spot for taking in some sunshine and enjoying a swim in the gentle, warm waters. When the sun begins to set, however, the beach is elevated to one of the most romantic places on earth. As couples gaze out at the setting sun with its brilliant palette of yellows, reds and oranges, it’s impossible to not be overwhelmed by a deep love for each other in these fairy tale-like surroundings.

Traveling to Negril

Weather in Negril
It’s always the right time for a romantic honeymoon in Negril thanks to Jamaica’s mild weather. The country rarely sees temperatures below 72 degrees in January or above 90 in July, and it is the particularly warm winter months that make this time of year peak travel season. Couples will find some of the best travel deals during the summer months, but be sure to keep the rainy season in mind, which generally takes place from June through November.

COVID-19 Considerations
Currently, Jamaica requires all travelers to show proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test, and many resorts offer testing services to meet any requirements needed to fly home. These stipulations change often so make sure to check into current requirements well before you go. Your travel advisor is a great resource for this kind of information!

Flights to Negril
Negril is accessible by two major airports: Donald Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay and Norman Manley Airport (KIN) in Kingston. Travelers typically choose the far closer Sangster International Airport, which is only about 50 miles northeast of Negril and serviced primarily by JetBlue, American Airlines, and Delta. A number of U.S. cities even have non-stop flights to the country, including New York, Chicago, Houston, Boston, Miami, and Orlando.

Ground Transfers
Some resorts include shuttles to and from the airport for stress-free transfers. Others can assist in arranging transportation, so make sure to ask about your options when you book your room. A rental car can also be secured with ease from the airport. Plus, with a rental car, you and your sweetheart will have freedom of movement to explore some of the area’s off-the-beaten-path adventure spots. There are plenty of taxis that service Negril as well, and two choices, route taxis and private transfers, offer options for every kind of travel. Route taxis are typically cheaper, but you might have to do a lighthearted negotiation to get one for the going rate of a few U.S. dollars per trip.

Jamaican Culture & Considerations

Language
English speakers will feel right at home in Negril as the dominant language in the country is Jamaican Patois. This might sound daunting at first, but it’s simply an English-based creole language that incorporates West African influences. Within minutes of arriving in Negril, couples will find themselves picking up phrases from the engaged locals like “a wah dis?” (what is this?) and “a how much fi dis?” (what is the price?).

Safety
The relaxed atmosphere of Negril certainly makes it a prime destination for reveling in the joys of starting a new life together, though couples will still want to be mindful of their surroundings and arrange transportation ahead of time if leaving the resort areas or enjoying the nightlife scene. The country has its share of enthusiastic locals that sell their wares on the beach and offer private tourism services, but if you’re not interested, all it takes is a polite but firm decline before carrying on with your day.

Tipping

Also worth keeping in mind is that Jamaicans typically don’t tip or work for tips, though tipping of 10-15% is common and appreciated in tourist-centric areas. While some all-inclusive resorts go so far as to implement a “no tipping” policy, if you’ve opted for a butler suite at your resort you will want to tip your butlers for all their hard work (trust us, it’s well worth the splurge!).

Negril is an ideal setting for cherishing time with your life partner, so be sure to take advantage of its rich culture through the food, music, and natural beauty of this unique Caribbean paradise. The experience will bring you even closer together!
